As the remnants of tropical storm Gustav inch
eastward across the United States another storm is
slammed Haiti. Hanna is the third storm to hit Haiti in as
many weeks. Flooded roads, mud slides, ruined crops,
and lost lives add to the chaos that already defines
Haitian life. AACH has thousands children in our
programs who live in the affected areas. Children who’s
families live a near desperation existence and they
simply cannot endure this kind of strain without your help.
Haiti and the
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Politically and economically, Haiti teeters in the edge of implosion and even with
the United Nations in place cannot cope with the scale of need a storm of this
magnitude creates, much less two. However, the infrastructure that AACH has
built for distribution of athletic equipment and for staging tournaments and
outreach events is perfectly suited for the distribution of relief supplies, but we
cannot offer this hope without your help.
Before the storms a 50kg bag of rice had risen from $40.00 to $70.00. The
storm will cause this price to inflate even more. There are 90 AACH teams strown
across the country, 6 women's teams and 82 boy's teams. Our plan is to buy one
for each bag of rice per team. Bags will be divided among the athletes and
shared with their families. We realize we cannot meet all the needs our kids are
facing but we can fold our efforts into the efforts of other organizations and make
gains in the regions around the country where the storms have left the most
damage.
Time is our enemy here and Haiti needs you to pray and lend your support. There
are still two months of the hurricane season left and Haiti will lie in the path of
most so led to help please do not hesitate.
